But one thing that is often overlooked in the search for a prosthetist is finding someone who is not just a great professional, but also a good human being. I’ve been an amputee for almost 40 years. During that time, I tried many different prosthetic centers in Europe and New York, but it wasn’t until I came to South Beach Prosthetics in Miami that I finally found a place that felt like home.

Mark Selleck is the owner of South Beach Prosthetics, and he’s been my prosthetist for several years now. He is not just a great prosthesis who loves what he does – he’s an amazing human being who cares deeply about his patients and their well-being.

When I first came to him, he didn’t just make me a new leg—he listened to me, educated me about what was best for me, kept up with new technology, and delivered everything in record time. He has helped me troubleshoot problems with my stump and my socket. He answered all of my questions (and trust me, I had A LOT of questions) with patience and respect. He took the time to get to know me as a person, not just as a patient. He even suggested trying new things, and I’m so thankful he did!

Also, everyone at the office has treated me like a part of their family on each visit—it’s a really supportive environment. That’s so important to me, especially since I’m dealing with a long-term condition. Many of the employees are also amputees. It’s nice to know that there are people out there who understand what I’m going through and who are willing to help however they can.
